Australia Day Celebration, Friday, January 25, 2008
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia, which commemorates Captain Arthur Philip’s landing of the first fleet at Port Jackson on January 26th in 1788. Australia Day is celebrated in all states and territories of Australia, and will be celebrated here in Toronto on Friday January 25th at The Albany Club.
The Albany Club is one of Canada’s oldest private clubs. Founded in 1882, and named after the Duke of Albany, the club has occupied its current location on King Street East for more than 125 years, where Sir John A. Macdonald was a founding member.
The evening will begin at 6:30 with a reception of bubbly and beer and finger foods. At 7:15, we head down to the main dining room for dinner. The Club’s Executive Chef has prepared a special menu for the occasion.

You can also join the AWS or renew your membership online, and you're entitled to the member price for this event as long as we receive your membership payment before the event.

The Australian Wine Society (AWS) of Toronto is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the enjoyment of the wines of Australia. Through exposure to, and education about the wines and wine regions of Australia, the Society seeks to encourage, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, a greater awareness of the wine varietals, the diversity and the styles of Aussie wines. The opportunity to try a wide range of wines makes it easier for members to decide what types they might want to purchase through wine agents, the LCBO, Vintages monthly releases and the Classics Catalogue.
